At FCS we want students to know that being a disciple of Jesus means not only following him in word, but also in deed. We are committed to helping students develop an active faith that serves others through our Faith in Action program. This program was recognized by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) as a national exemplary school program. Whether it’s serving the poor of Los Angeles at the Union Rescue Mission, bringing joy to a local nursing home, passing out food and shoes in the Dominican Republic, or serving food to the homeless in San Francisco. Our students are given age appropriate ways to make a difference in their world. Our goal is to foster within our students a desire to embrace the compassion of Christ and instill the habits of service throughout their lives.

Formational Learning Experiences (FLEx) : Immersion Trips
As followers of Jesus, God invites us to participate in His mission of service, love, and discipleship. Being able to step out of our own culture and context and be immersed into another, can help us appreciate God’s love in a whole new way and is an opportunity for a mutual exchange of the joy that comes from the Gospel with our brothers and sisters beyond our walls, even across borders.

Immersion Trips are a little different than how we might normally think of “Missions Trips.” Immersion means that we are becoming completely involved in God's story; seeing His story, and living His story. If we want to truly honor God in our efforts to love our neighbor, we must think about the long-term effects of our service because the mission is not over even after a trip. True faith in action is a way of life that recognizes there is real work that meets real needs for real people.

The opportunities that we offer vary in their emphasis, but have common elements. Focuses include poverty engagement, community building, justice seeking, servant working and image reflecting. Students also join an elective class before and after the trip not just to get to know one another and make plans, but also to begin to understand the community and culture of the immersion destination and how to make lasting impact for their everyday lives.
