General Music
Elementary Music
General Music is a foundational class for Jr. K–5th grade students that explores the essential elements of music through singing, movement, listening, and instrument playing. Rather than focusing on one instrument, students gain a well-rounded experience—learning recorder in 3rd grade and ukulele in 5th grade—while also exploring musical concepts such as rhythm, melody, dynamics, and tempo. Through creative activities, improvisation, and exposure to music from various cultures and time periods, students build musical skills, confidence, and an appreciation for music, whilst also growing in the understanding that God created it for our enjoyment and for us to worship Him through the songs we sing and the music we make.
Selah Choir
Selah is a dedicated group of 4th and 5th grade students who have elected to join and commit to an elementary choir. This is an extracurricular program and offers students the opportunity to learn about vocal technique, choral practices, and gain performance experience.
Choir members come together and rehearse once a week in order to prepare for the performances they give throughout the year. These performances included the FCS “Night on The Plaza” Concert and the FCS Spring Concert. Song selections include a variety of genres and difficulty levels, and all represent the values and beliefs that FCS holds as a Christian institution.
The purpose of Selah is to provide training and tools for students to not only learn about singing, but also to discover a deeper and richer aspect of worship through music that glorifies God as a community.
Psalm 95:1-2 “Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; Let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.”About the Instructor
