Meet The Directors

Vicky Gutzwiller started at Foothill Christian in 1987, initially as a teacher’s aide, then a teacher and ultimately became the Director, a position she has held now for over 22 years. Under Vicky’s leadership the preschool has flourished. The enrollment demand was so high we had to build a larger facility to accommodate the community’s needs. In 2003 property located on historic Rt. 66 was purchased and construction of a new preschool began. It was that same year that we opened a half-day preschool in the existing facilities at Baseline. The state of the art facility, outstanding personnel and superior curriculum resources have made the preschool an ACSI flagship preschool in the Los Angeles area.

Vicky has been a regional preschool leader with ACSI since 2001. In this role she is responsible for leading monthly meetings with area preschool directors and also participates in convention and conference planning sessions. In 2011, Vicky led the preschool through its first ever accreditation with both ACSI and WASC.

Thanks to Miss Vicky and her wonderful staff our preschool was voted by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune Newsgroup as the readers’ “Best Preschool” in the San Gabriel Valley!

Barbara Harmon has been the director of the half-day program since it opened in 2004. She has taught in early childhood education for over 34 years, beginning as a teacher and for the last 18 years as a director. Always having a passion for children she knew upon graduation from high school what her life’s calling would be. In her youth, Barbara loved working with kids and did a lot of babysitting. Being with them was fun and personally rewarding to her, so when making a career decision, she thought, “Why not work with kids?” Barb’s adage is “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

According to Barbara, “It has been a blessing working a Foothill. As the director it is my responsibility to provide a caring and safe place for children to grow and learn in a Christ-centered environment. Not only do I love coming to work at an amazing school, I get to share God’s love with the children, and have fun doing it! For me, it doesn’t get any better than that.”
